Questions about Egypt

Why did Egyptian pharaohs wear a ceremonial beard? What was the ankh?
   Katie, Web Post

Dr. dig responds:
The false beard was worn as a strong symbol of kingship--even female pharaohs wore beards! The ankh, a "T" topped by a loop, was the symbol of life.
